more weekend blahblah
November 2, 2008
Another good, and productive, day. It started well with a cooked breakfast courtesy of SO’s dad and stepmum. Yum. Bacon, eggs, sausages, everything that we needed to prevent us from fading away into shadows. (Yes, I am being ironic here.) Plus, the weekend papers and latest copy of Australian Property Investor magazine, for me.
I said to SO that his dad loves talking to us about property investment. It’s true. Everytime he sees us, he brings up stuff he’s heard (or read) in the news about it. And he openly encourages me by buying me copies of API! That said, I think he got a shock today when I mentioned the fact that we’re going to speak to our accountant about opening a trust in which to start doing our investing, as a tax minimisation strategy. His response was, ‘So you’re going to do it seriously then’. Well, yes, if you don’t consider the three properties we bought in a year to be ’serious’. If we’re going to do it, we may as well do it in such a way as to get the maximum benefits from it.
Anyhow, we got home, had a little snooze, then got into the garden. SO mowed and edged the lawn, and did some weeding; I did some fairly heavy-duty weeding, fertilised some plants, did some trimming, and generally got very dirty. Oh, and I planted out some cuttings. SO’s stepmum gave me some rosemary and also some trailing geranium, so I planted it all out. I did the rosemary in two different ways – one with hardwood cuttings, one with tiny, fresh green growth cuttings. Everything else was the same. I’ll be interested to see which group does better.
SO’s stepmum also gave us some plants – a tiny baby palm, a deciduous hibiscus, and some impatiens. I’m not really sure where they’re going to go, but I’m hoping we start to get the backyard cleared of weeds and crap soon, so they’ll be able to be planted there. I just hope they survive until their planting out! (I tend to have a bad track record with potplants.) We’ll see.
I took some photos of our hard work too. I forget to do this most of the time, but it makes for interesting viewing later, when you compare and see how everything’s grown. Sorry, haven’t downloaded them as yet so can’t include in this post.
And yes, I am writing this at 1:20 am. Sleeping issues. Need I say more?
