more sadness
November 13, 2008
I found out on Monday that M’s sister L’s baby wouldn’t survive. L found out last Thursday, a few days before she and her husband were witnesses for M’s wedding. As she was 21 weeks, she had to go into labour, which happened on Tuesday.
As the issue was a chromosomal defect, the baby was not a pretty sight. L’s husband saw it*, and he advised L not to see the poor little thing, so she didn’t. M and L’s dad spoke to him later Tuesday night, and he was very distressed about it.
I am so sad for my friends. It’s one of those horrible situations where all you can do is let them know that you’re there for them. I couldn’t even really comprehend it all until today, which is why I’m posting this now, and not on Monday when I found out.
My poor friends.
* I was rereading this post, and was struck by how I referred to the baby as ‘it’ and how cold it seems. I should point out that the only reason I did is because I don’t know what sex the baby was.
